Zé Radiola in Huntington Beach California
Zé Radiola of Graice Barra PE (Recife Pernambuco) was in Huntington Beach California Tuesday night giving a seminar at Ricardo Testai's school, Gracie Barra Huntington Beach. I went to the seminar because Zé is the famous coach of Braulio Estima, who we interviewed for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Magazine, Victor Estima, Otavio Sousa an Lucas Rocha. I stayed for the second seminar because he is so infectious. View Pictures AND VIDEO TECHNIQUE!->

Gracie Barra, SWAT & Police
Gracie Barra instructors Ricardo Testai, Marcelo Lacerda and Bruno Rocha stopped by Buena Park Police Department to show members of the team a few BJJ positions.
Ricardo Testai, of gracie barra Anaheim Hills, use to teach Special Forces in Brazil. His experience translates sport Jiu-Jitsu to real world application.
When asked S.W.A.T. Team member Eric Burciaga if he would see hand-to-hand fighting within the year he said. "Most definitely. The bad guys don't want to go to jail and some of those guys are learning this stuff. We need to learn it too."
They learned breakfalls, defensive recovery from the ground, dogding a punch, takedowns, and a arm choke finish.
After the seminar the police officers got to go a few rounds with the Gracie Barra black belts. Everyone was sweaty and smiling. Only the black belts managed to get submissions.

Alberto Crane: Gracie Barra's First American Black Belt
Born July 14, 1976 in Santa Fe, New Mexico is gracie barra’s first American Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Alberto Crane. As a kid Alberto traveled and lived not just in America, he spent seven years of his youth living in Germany with his parents and two sisters. His first actual grappling partner was his older sister. He attended High School in New York, but his heart has always belonged to Santa Fe, New Mexico, that is the town he calls his home and its where his family resides.
Alberto did not begin Jiu Jitsu at an early age like many Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts have, he actually played soccer, he did a little boxing and wrestling when he was in elementary school. It was not until he was 18 years old and after some friends who had been bugging him for six months to go attend a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class, that he finally got his first taste of Jiu Jitsu. “Once I did one class I was hooked! Then after I saw Royce Gracie, I saw the mixed martial arts, the vale tudo fighting and of course it pumped me up even more you know that I was doing something that really worked, that was really effective,” said Alberto Crane.

Gracie Barra BJJ : Franchise Changes Causing Rifts?
There's been some buzz around Gracie Barra and their franchising changes that may soon come to their affiliates. Link this to more information and at least one academy dropping from the GB ranks to join Gracie Humaita and a recent decision to deny gracie barra their trademark on a logo submitted by a group called Gracie Barra Franchise Systems and there's some news.
Recent posts on BJJ Forums - such as this one on Jiu Jitsu Forums.com, indicate a change is coming. There's nothing tangible right now that we can point to, but the forum was buzzing in August and talk has been heard. GB, claims to have over 300 affiliated schools on 5 continents, which is a good size for any franchising organization
