Conca “Our goal is to provide the best quality gi possible at the lowest cost. We strongly believe that everyone should be able to acquire the best quality gi to represent themselves and their schools while on the mat.”
The Joker Lightweight Gi by Conca
The gi is extremely well made. I think it will stand up to tons of abuse. It has many extras and it is fun and colorful. The A2 is cut stocky and if you are on the leaner side I’d recommend you go down a size. The gi costs $169.00. Conca currently is selling The Joker through Emguarda BJJ in Upland CA, Ralph Gracie BJJ in Chino CA and Teixeira Garcia BJJ in Covina CA. Style
The Conca Joker is a white gi with colorful, what I like to think of as Mardi Gras colors. My teammate referred to the gi as my Miami Dolphins gi. Truth be told the color scheme was inspired by DC Comic’s Joker.

In 2011, a friend of mine in Canada mentioned she was planning to join a twenty four hour ‘Grapple-A-Thon’ at Martial Arts Planet in Kingston, Ontario. The basic premise was that at least two people spar over a twenty-four hour period, with the option of also fundraising for their chosen charity. Fortunately for those of us thousands of miles away, the organisers were going to set up a live stream from the gym, meaning I could watch the action from my laptop in England.

Marcus "Buchecha" BJJ DVD Set Footage - BJJLegends Blog Featured
Written by Dan FaggellaMarcus "Buchecha" Almeida is a Multi-Time BJJ World Champion, known best for his domination of open weight divisions, his battle with Roger Gracie, and his amazing leg lock and sweep game. Grab some of Buchecha's best techniques for Free here - and learn more about his DVD.
My "combing" of the BJJ world has been tending more and more towards some of the athletes who I feel have really "Rocked the Boat" in competitive Jiu Jitsu in the past year or so. Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida came up QUICK with his amazing win against Rodolfo Viera, and his World Championship and Absolute Division victories.
So when "Buchecha" came out with a DVD set - it was mine preeeetty much as soon as I could get my hands on it - and I wanted to show some sample clips of some of the techniques that Buchecha has online - and also talk particularly about what I think are some of the major virtues of his game. I don't really have the authority to go taking his DVDs and putting them online, but I wanted to share whatever was already online (I'm not a "pirate" of this stuff) and give some cool perspective and stuff you guys can use. Check out these killer clips!
When I called to talk with Gary, he couldn't believe that the Jiu-Jitsu folks had organized a fundraiser seminar for him telling me, "I'm a two-strip blue belt, a nobody in the Jiu-Jitsu world." This is despite the fact that we trained together at Rigan Machado's academy back in the late '90s. He says, "I've been doing jiu-jitsu here and there with a lot of people." He's trained with Rigan Machado, Rey Diogo, Perry Hauck, Jordan Collins, Marc Laimon, Mike Rose, Gary Endo, Michael Jen, Roy Harris, Ethan Milius, Richard Bresler, Mike Ancheta, Andreh Anderson. Lonnie Phillips, Cindy Omatsu, Felicia Oh, Jimmy Tang and Dale Frank.
He trained in JKD and the Filipino Martial arts under Guro Dan Inosanto for 6 years. And has trained in the backyard Lameco Eskrima group under the late Pungong Guro Edgar Sulite.
Because Gary's Lung cancer is stage 4 and metastasized to his bones, the doctors have ruled out surgery. They have put him on a regimen of a cancer drug called Tarceva. Doctors are hopeful this will slow the cancer's growth.
Here are the details for the BJJ Mega Seminar for Gary Quan

In the wild world of sports that so many of us enjoy, there is never a dull moment. We love our traditional games and athletes, however, there are some times when the specific sport you enjoy needs a little shot in the arm to help bring it along with the time.
A perfect example of this would be the super-slick back take, the berimbolo. Utilized in order to obtain back mount, this transition is a tricky one and should be drilled over-and-over if you want to really get the move down pat.
One Brazilian Jiu Jitsu player that has this transition down pat is Rafael Mendes. If you’ve followed my work, you know I’m a big supporter of both Mendes brothers. Rafael is notorious for using the berimbolo to help advance his position and gain the upper hand on his opponents.

In most sports, there are specific competitors that have a unique calling card of sorts. There is always one or two players who have a unique style that you can’t quite categorize them. Always thinking outside of the box, these athletes continuously evolve their style along with the times.
One of these men, from a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu perspective, is Keenan Cornelius.
A super talented brown belt, the former Lloyd Irvin protégé has shown flashes of fantastic skills. Currently training with Atos BJJ, Keenan has a defensive approach that makes him standout amongst the rest of his peers.A unique style, his guard pass defense is second to none. No matter the opinion of his style, it has proven to be effective and useful.
Review: iThlete App Review...(Bringing HRV Into the Mix) Featured
Written by Matthew CorleyAthletes at the highest levels have access to the latest technology as they strive for peak performance. They and their coaches are monitoring multiple stimuli, both external and internal, to determine what training loads achieve the perfect balance between improvement and recovery. As we all know without adequate recovery you’re not going to be able to train effectively and your chances of injury increase. Recent innovations and products have opened the door so that even recreational athletes can utilize products that just a few years ago were cost prohibitive to all but well-funded athletic programs.
Heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring can be used to quantify your baseline level of fitness, track you daily recovery, develop a personal strategy for peaking, and identify trends from changes in your training regimen. HRV based program have been developed for professional athletes of all sports, including the UFC, and may represent the next step in individualized training programs.
