The Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship once again was the site for the spawning and introduction to a new breed of future stars in the sport of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Apart of this group of rising figures is Lovato BJJ blue belt Jared Dopp. A native of Oklahoma who currently resides in Wichita Falls, Texas Dopp dedication to the sport is unparalleled in all areas.

Through consistently pushing himself to the limit in intense workouts to making the long trip to Oklahoma City to train with his instructor this commitment clearly explains his recent achievements of obtaining double gold at the Pam Ams in the blue belt super heavy and open weight class division.

Andre Galvao Calls Out the IBJJF

IBJJF Falling Short?

In an emotionally expressive rant on Facebook, Andre Galvao multiple IBJJF world and ADCC champion, expresses his distress from experiences at the 2012 Pan Jiu-Jitsu tournament.

According to Galvao, the IBJJF only had one referee per match where three should be expected.  Referees work all day managing the matches under a lot of pressure and scruitiny.  The referees are often one of the most talked about items on the IBJJF events.  The points assigned and calls, often in the past its been widely understood that the decisions are often weighted or political.  The IBJJF has tried to counter that notion by establishing schooling and seminars for their referees.  Assembling a structured program and education, however the idea still prevails amongst competitors.

2011 Pan Am BJJ Results

The Pans were a great time and of great fights.  Few booths at the Pan Ams, but the competition came out.

As you can see from the results, Alliance takes the top spot in Adult (which is Men).  Lloyd Irvin fallys to more than half the score for 2nd.

The Women's Class is won by Alliance, with Gracie Humaita coming in far behind and just beating Team Lloyd Irvin

Novice is taken by BJJ Revolution just edging out Nova Uniao..

Juvi's won by Pitgull BJJ.

Masters was won by the ubiquitous gracie barra...

Congratulations to all the winning teams and podium placements.. Excellent job.

2011 Pan BJJ Update (3/26)

The Pans have heated up with fantastic fights and challenges for the competitors.   The coaches surround the mats with a fierce voice that gets louder as we move in higher belts and the crowds grow accordingly.

Men's Purple Absolute:

This year's purple belt absolute final saw Wilbur (aka Willie) Leonard and De Alonzio (DJ) Jackson compete for the gold.  To DJ's ultimate dismay, Willie secured the gold with a 6 to 0 win including two guard passes. Final Standings in the Open:
