From Brasa to CheckMat with Leo Vieira

BJJ Legends had a photo shoot with Leo Vieira’s acclaimed

leo1
Leo Vieira talks about Brasa and the new ChackMatbrown

brown belt Ary Farias. But that’s a story for another time (BJJ Legends Issue 2). After everything was said and done I pulled Leo aside and asked, so what’s the story? Give me the “official version” and the “off-the-record-version” of the break-up. Leo says, “There’s only one version.” And what I thought would be a two minute explanation turned into a half an hour story. Here’s a recap.

Bodog done? Closed?

Bodog Fight recently contacted us and told us that they were ending their MMA operations. To what degree we do not know, as there has been no official statement, but they did ask us to pull all advertising. Bodog Fight Closes, BJJ Legends Magazine - Jiu-Jitsu Magazine

Internet sources state that Bodog used it's MMA operation to generate interest in it's online gambling site. However, losses became incredibly severe and unsustainable that it was necessary to stop the bleeding to the tune of $38 million dollars in losses last year.

We hate to see Bodog go, as it helps give all fighters a break and an opportunity to fight.  Visit Bodog Fight, and catch the great content they have.

Calvin Ayre, thanks for the fights, we hope it can continue in one form or another to provide perspective and opportunity for the fans and the fighters.
