What Motivates You: Augusto Tanquinho Mendes
Motivation can be describe as a driving force by which humans use to achieve their goals. Everyone in life is driven toward a particular goal. Not matter obstacles they have to encounter, it is motivation that allows an individual to meet those challenges in order to reach the goal they wish to accomplish. The same can be said when it come to practitioners in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
BJJ LegendsTM took the time to have an in-depth conversation with top BJJ and Grapplers in the world to ask them what has kept them motivated through their BJJ journey. Keep up with BJJ LegendsTM to read the continuing series.

ADCC is not the Abu Dhabi World Pro
(via: GrapplersPlanet.com) The Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) and Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu Jitsu Championships have become a source of confusion for some. Both are tournaments held worldwide, and both have “Abu Dhabi” in the title, but that’s where the similarities end.

Interview with Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling Legend: Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu
He was known as just Roberto Abreu back in early 2000. A tough blue belt that loved to compete and hungry to be a world class BJJ black belt. Just four short months after having been in a horrific car accident that was to leave him with having to give up the sport he loved he went on to take 2nd in the Brazilian Nationals. That’s when it all changed.
Roberto already knew, and now everyone else does too, that he was still on a path to accomplish his jiu-jitsu goals. But how could he. How could Roberto from the Brazilian country side make such a quick come back? How could he make a come back at all? It wasn’t normal. It’s like he’s some kind of a machine or mythological figure. A BJJ player of his size with the quickness of a feather weight, the technical ability of someone raised in Rio and playing on the mats from infancy, and the power and pressure of a super super heavy weight. "Cyborg" could be an understatement.
US Grappling, Sumission Only!
It all starts with an idea. And the idea of Andrew Smith ( for the complete Q & A - click here) could revolutionize the world of sport BJJ. Smith, a black belt in Judo and BJJ, is co-owner and instructor at Revolution BJJ in Richmond, VA. Like so many of us, Andrew claims to be completely obsessed with Jiu-Jitsu. He began wrestling in high school, then found Judo in college. His exposure to BJJ came through working with Jiu Jitsukas that passed through his academy throughout the week. The ground work fascinated him, and even though there were no Jiu-Jitsu schools nearby, he studied on his own until 2002, when a BJJ school in Richmond opened its doors.
NAGA Midwest Championship
On September 4th & 5th, the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) returned to the Land of Lincoln for its annual Midwest Grappling Championship at the Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, Illinois.
The tournament was the second held in the windy city after NAGA visited Chicago earlier this year at the Chicago Championship in April, and faced a dilemma with having too small of a venue to accommodate the large influx of competitors. With both the kids and adults grappling on the same day, it resulted in disaster, with many adults not competing until early evening until late into the night.
